Digital Games Research Association

Founded in 2003, the Digital Games Research Association (DiGRA) is the premiere international association for academics and professionals who research digital games and associated phenomena. It encourages high-quality research on games, and promotes collaboration and dissemination of work by its members. Over the past decades, DiGRA has grown into an organization with a global reach, now gathering under its umbrella 18 regional chapters across the world, from DiGRA Brazil to Chinese DiGRA.

DiGRA 2025 Malta is the sixteenth edition of DiGRA’s international conference, and it is hosted by the Institute of Digital Games (University of Malta). DiGRA was first held in 2003 in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Since then, the conference has been hosted in various leading institutions across four continents, from Kyoto, Japan, to Guadalajara, Mexico.

As the largest annual international conference dedicated to game studies, DiGRA brings together hundreds of scholars, designers, practitioners and students to examine games, play and players from the perspectives of the humanities, social sciences, the arts, design research, creative practice, and beyond.
