Weather and Clothing

The weather in Malta during the summer months is extremely hot, sunny, and humid. Expect daytime temperatures that are constantly above 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit), and night-time temperatures only slightly below that. Pack beachwear, shorts, and summer dresses because you’ll need them. The conference rooms will be air conditioned, and your accommodation is likely to be too, but don’t plan to walk long distances, especially between 10.00 and 15.00.

Currency and Payment

The unit of currency is the Euro. Card payment is almost universally accepted in shops and restaurants, though it might be convenient to carry some cash for tips and smaller purchases.

Language

Maltese and English are both official languages in Malta, and Italian is also widely spoken. You are very unlikely to encounter a context where you are unable to communicate in English!

Diversity

Malta is an increasingly diverse and cosmopolitan country, with expat and migrant communities from all over the world making up an increasingly sizable share of the population. Legislation to safeguard LGBT+ rights is among the highest in the world, and Malta is recognized as one of the safest destinations for LBGT+ travellers. Whoever you are, it is very unlikely you will feel unwelcome or out of place as a visitor.
