Víctor Navarro-Remesal

Víctor Navarro-Remesal is a media scholar specializing in games. He is an associate professor at Tecnocampus, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, where he teaches History of Video Games, Game Industries, and Interactive Narrative. He also teaches Theory of Games and Play and Asian Culture at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. He’s the author of books such as Libertad dirigida: Una gramática del análisis y diseño de videojuegos (Shangrila, 2016) and the editor of Pensar el juego. 25 caminos para los game studies (Shangrila, 2020) and Perspectives on the European Videogame (Amsterdam University Press, 2021). His research interests are Zen-inspired games and slow gaming, gēmu, and game preservation. He is the president and one of the founding members of DIGRA Spain, co-president of the History of Games conference, editor of the book series on game studies Ludografías, and curator of the conference series ‘Gēmu’ for Fundación Japón, Madrid.

Krista Bonello Rutter Giappone

Krista is a Research Support Officer with the Centre for Labour Studies and a casual/visiting senior lecturer with the Department of English at the University of Malta. She has also taught historical game studies at the Jagiellonian University and San Francisco State University, and is a guest lecturer in Narrative and Games at the University of Malta. She has particular research interests in the areas of comedy and games, and historical game studies. She co-edited the book Video Games and Comedy (Palgrave, 2022). Krista's recent research focuses on the working conditions of precariously employed academics, and she has co-authored the book Working Conditions in a Marketised University System: Generation Precarity (Springer, 2023), with Lena Wånggren.

Jing Sun

Jing Sun is an Associate Professor at School of Cultural Technology, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in China. With experiences in both academia and industry, she’s dedicated to empowering students to get an in-depth understanding of game ecology, develop a critical approach to game cultures, and design their own games. She’s been the Chinese translator of several books on game studies and game design, and co-edited Introduction to Chinese Game Studies (《中国游戏研究》) and Connected Esports Research (《全球电竞文化导论》) . Her latest book Gamescape: What Video Games Can Tell Us About Our Culture And Society (《嬉游志:透过电子游戏看世界》) was published in April 2024. As a regular contributor to Chinese media and think tanks, she’s also written game criticism articles and game industry reports.

Daniel Vella

Daniel Vella is the Director of the Institute of Digital Games at the University of Malta. He is the co-author of Virtual Existentialism: Meaning and Subjectivity in Virtual Worlds (Palgrave 2020 - with Stefano Gualeni), and has published his research in edited volumes and journals including Game Studies, Countertext, ToDiGRA, and Techné: Research in Philosophy and Technology. He also works as a writer and narrative designer for games, including on Posthuman Saga (Mighty Boards 2019) and Fateforge: Chronicles of Kaan (Mighty Boards, 2024). His debut novel is out on Praspar Press in 2025.

Stefano Gualeni

Stefano Gualeni is an academic and author of philosophical reveries. He is a Full Professor at the Institute of Digital Games (University of Malta) and a Visiting Professor at the Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) in Laguna Beach, California. Among his monographic books are Virtual Worlds as Philosophical Tools (Palgrave, 2015), Virtual Existentialism (Palgrave, 2020 – with Daniel Vella), Fictional Games: A Philosophy of Worldbuilding and Imaginary Play (Bloomsbury, 2022 – with Riccardo Fassone), The Clouds: An Experiment in Theory-Fiction (Routledge, 2023), Il Videogioco Del Mondo (Time0, 2024), and the forthcoming What We Owe the Dead (Set Margins', 2025).
